“We write, so you don’t have to.”

Do I Use "I" or "Me"?

By pearl • September 23, 2007 • Filed in: Grammar Tips

In planning for future Pearl Writing blog posts, I wrote down an idea for when a writer should use “I” versus “me”. Great minds truly do think alike, because Theda K over at Crayon Writer has written a similar post. Rather than re-creating the same topic, I urge you to have a read there.

She says, “So many people use “and I” because they think it’s proper English. I know. I know. We were taught in grade school to say, “Jane and I are best friends,” instead of, “Me and Jane are best friends.” Were we told wrong? No. But we weren’t told enough. So now, perfectly sane adults run around saying, “So-and-so and I” in very insane sentences.” Read the rest of her helpful post here.

Thanks for the idea to work on I or Me. I end up trying to think back to grade school whenever I write that and I cannot remember the rule Old Mrs So and So drilled into our heads.
